KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team opened the 2023-2024 home slate on a high-note Sunday afternoon, routing Cleary University 76-39. With the victory, the Cougars improve to 2-1 on the year.
Looking to build upon the first win of the season, the Cougars came out of the locker room strong, jumping out to a 9-2 lead. A
Kelsi Langley steal and score extended the IUK lead to double-digits and forced a Cleary timeout. IU Kokomo led 19-10 after one quarter.
The Cougars of IU Kokomo led the Cougars of Cleary 23-13 with 7:10 remaining in the first half, before ending the opening 20 minutes on a 15-1 run to take a 38-14 lead into the locker room.
IU Kokomo opened the second half in a big way, outscoring Cleary 15-4 to lead by 35 with 3:23 to go in the third quarter. Head coach Jacob Yorg's squad led 55-26 thru three quarters. The hometown Cougars would outscore the visiting Cougars by eight in the final 10 minutes to close out a 76-39 victory.
Olivia Dowden led IU Kokomo offensively, scoring 21 points on 8/15 shooting from the field.
Kelsi Langley scored 10 points while grabbing seven rebounds.Â

Anna Kiser had a strong game of eight points, eight boards, four assists, and four steals, while freshman
Hannah Hodgen tallied nine points, four rebounds, and three assists. Fellow freshman guard
Cameryn Rector played well, totaling five points and four boards in 20 minutes of action.
The Cougars will return to action next Saturday, as they will host in-state foe Holy Cross College. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
