MIDWAY, Ky. - The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team picked up their 23rd straight win Friday night at Midway, and are one win away from an undefeated River States Conference record.
While the match stayed competitive and Midway stayed within striking distance, the Cougars never lost confidence on their way to an 11th straight sweep.
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead, but Midway managed to claw back and trail by just three nearly halfway through the opening set. IU Kokomo rebuilt the lead to six at 17-11 before going on to win the set 25-17.
Midway led 6-5 in set two before IUK answered with five-straight points for a 10-6 lead. The Cougars led 18-16 later in the set before closing the set on a 7-2 run.
The Eagles once again found themselves in front early in set three, but this time the Cougars utilized a 6-0 run to take a four-point lead of their own.
IU Kokomo led 17-14 before winning six-straight points for a commanding 23-14 lead. Midway would make a run and force an IUK timeout, yet the Cougars would hold on to take set three 25-20 and the match in three sets.
Maggie Connell led the Cougars with 15 kills and a co-best two blocks.
Audrey Strawsma added 10 kills and a co-best two blocks.
