RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo men's basketball team dropped their first game of the season Wednesday evening, as they fell by two points at River States Conference foe IU East. The Cougars are now 8-1 on the year after the loss.
Throughout the first half, both IU East and IU Kokomo traded buckets, as the game looked to be high-scoring with the Red Wolves taking a 45-41 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Red Wolves quickly extended their lead to double-digits in the opening minutes of the second half, a lead that got as big as 17Â with 9:09Â remaining in the game.
Trailing 82-73, IU Kokomo went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to two with 1:34 remaining, but neither team would score again as the Red Wolves held on to deal the Cougars their first setback of the season.Â
Despite the loss, six different Cougars scored in double-figures, led by 15 points from sophomore guard
Ty Wills.
Evan Kretz scored 13, with all 13 coming in the second half, while
Hunter Jackson had 12.Â
Noah Harris had 10 points, eight boards, and four assists, as
Max Newman contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Dell DeMyers was the final double-digit scorer with 10 off of the bench.
The Cougars will have some time off before continuing River States Conference play December 9th at IU Southeast. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
