KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team welcomed Brescia to the SAEC Saturday for the Cougars final home match of the regular season, sweeping the Bearcats in dominant fashion.
On a day in which the 2023 IU Kokomo Volleyball senior class was honored both before and after the game as part of Senior Day festivities, the Cougars cruised to a win in order to stay unbeaten in RSC play. This year's senior class includes
Mya Shively,
Alyvia Smith,
Audrey Strawsma,
Tori Wilkinson, and
Kelsey Hammond.
Head coach
Heather Hayes's starting lineup included all five seniors, and the rout was on early. Leading 9-5, a 6-0 run made it a 10-point IU Kokomo lead. The Cougars would take set one 25-14.
In front 10-5 in set two, a
Tori Wilkinson ace extended the IUK lead and forced the lone Brescia timeout of the match. Another 6-0 run, this time while leading 18-10, made it a 24-10 IUK lead before winning the set 25-11.
IU Kokomo won the first seven points of the third set, capped off by a
Mia Niekamp kill. The Cougs led 13-4 midway through the set, going on to win set three 25-12 to complete a 10th straight sweep.
Audrey Strawsma and
Kelsey Hammond each had three blocks to lead the Cougars, while
Alyvia Smith had 10 digs.
Mya Shively added four digs and a pair of assists.Â
The Cougars will close out the regular season this week with road matches at Midway and IU Southeast Friday and Saturday.
