KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team collected their ninth-consecutive sweep Friday evening in front of a rowdy homecoming crowd, taking down Oakland City in three.
IU Kokomo started the match strong and took a 5-1 lead, but Oakland City managed to claw their way back and trail by one midway through the opening set. The Cougars led 14-12 before utilizing a 5-0 run to lead by seven, eventually winning the set 25-15.
Set two was tied at two early on before the Cougars reeled off six-consecutive points to take a six-point lead. IUK took a commanding 17-7 lead before going on to win set two 25-16.
The third set looked to be the tightest of the match early on, but IU Kokomo would find a way to regain momentum and gain separation. Leading by one through 19 points in the set, a 5-0 run gave the Cougars a 15-9 lead. IUK would outscore the Mighty Oaks 10-6 down the stretch, taking the set 25-15 and the match in straight sets.
Maggie Connell led the Cougars in kills for a second-straight match, flooring a match-high 11.
Lexi Broyles played well at the net, collecting 10 kills and a team-leading seven blocks.
Audrey Strawsma added eight kills, four blocks, and two aces.Â
Kaley Lyons led IU Kokomo in assists with 20, as
Allison Richman tallied 16 to go along with four blocks.
Alyvia Smith had a team-high 11 digs while
Julia Sanders and
Ellie Garland each added seven.Â
The Cougars will play their final home match of the regular season tomorrow, as they will celebrate Senior Day while taking on Brescia at 12:00 PM.
