KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Kokomo women's soccer team defeated the Eagles of Midway University in dominant fashion on Saturday, earning a 6-1 victory to improve to 8-3-4 overall with a 6-0-1 mark in conference play.
From the opening moments of the match, it was clear that the Cougars were in control.
Elaina Page scored the Cougars' first goal a mere 3 minutes and 21 seconds into the match.
Before the 20 minute mark, IUK would find the back of the net three more times, with
Kendra Brewer scoring in the 16
th minute and
Kaiya Bogers striking twice in the 13
th and 18
th minutes, giving them a 4-0 lead which held until halftime.
Kelsi Hoot set the tone for the second half of the match early, scoring just two minutes into the period before recording an assist to
Jade Allen (her first goal of the season) in the 62
nd minute.
Midway scored on a penalty kick in the 73
rd minute of the match, but it proved to be too little too late for the Eagles, as the Cougars secured the 6-1 victory.
IU Kokomo outshot Midway 16-4 in Saturday's match, and Cougar goalkeeper
Kailee Moore recorded 3 saves on 4 shots.
The Cougars are down to their final three matches of the regular season. Their next event comes on Saturday October 21
st in the form of a home match against Brescia, before traveling to IUPUC the following Thursday and closing their season at home against Rio Grande on Saturday the 28
th.
