SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team fell 65-57 Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
IU Kokomo and SMWC traded threes to open the game before the Pomeroys opened up a 13-6 lead with 3:34 remaining in the first quarter. SMWC led 15-11 heading into the second quarter.
Freshman guard
Ella Wolfe drained a pair of free throws to tie the game at 19 with 6:45 to go in the first half. An
Olivia Dowden layup gave the Cougars a 25-21 lead late in the second quarter. IU Kokomo would hang on to take a 29-26 lead into halftime.
SMWC took their first lead of the second half less than three minutes into the third quarter via an Abby Worley jumper, as the two teams traded buckets for the next two minutes. The Pomeroys were eventually able to extend their lead to three, and led 45-40 after three quarters.
An old-fashioned three-point play from
Lilly Maple trimmed the Cougars deficit to two a minute into the fourth quarter. SMWC managed to extend the lead to six with 5:21 remaining, forcing an IU Kokomo timeout. The Pomeroys maintained control for the remainder of the game and went on to win 65-57.
Olivia Dowden led IU Kokomo Saturday with 14 points while
Alaya Chapman continued her strong play with ten points.
Shamaria Walker added eight points and four rebounds.
The Cougars will be back-in-action Thursday night as they will play at Alice Lloyd College (Ky.). Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M.
