KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team beat Oakland City 3-0 Friday night to improve to 4-0 in River States Conference action. Overall, the Cougars are now 15-4.
IU Kokomo led 14-8 at the midway point of the opening set, forcing an Oakland City timeout. The Cougars would finish the set on an 11-3 run to win it 25-11.
The Cougars controlled play early in the second set, but the Mighty Oaks made the second set tight. Trailing 20-12, Oakland City went on an 8-0 run to the tie the set at 20. With the set tied at 22, IU Kokomo utilized a 3-0 mini-run to win the set and take a 2-0 lead.
Oakland City won the opening point of the third set, but IU Kokomo went on a 6-0 run to take a five-point lead early in the set. From then on, the Cougars would cruise to a 25-13 third set win and 3-0 sweep over Oakland City.
Lorelei Porter led the Cougs with 12 kills, while
Sidney Gerig added nine.
Kaley Lyons had a match-high 21 assists and
Alyvia Smith had a match-high in digs with 12.
The Cougars will return to the court tomorrow, as they are set to welcome Brescia University to the Student Activities and Events Center. First serve is set for 12:00 P.M.
