KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team beat Brescia Saturday afternoon for their third-straight win. The Cougars third sweep of the week improved their overall record to 16-4, and they are now 5-0 in River States Conference play.
IU Kokomo trailed 9-8 in the opening set, but the Cougars reeled off four straight points to take a 12-9 lead. Leading 19-17, the Cougs closed the set on a 6-0 run to win it 25-17.
The Cougars jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead in the second set, and led by as many as ten at 22-12. The Bearcats went on a 6-0 run to trim the IUK lead to four, but the Cougs managed three straight kills to take the second set 25-18.
IU Kokomo took a seven-point lead at 12-5 thanks to a 4-0 run, forcing a Brescia timeout. IUK hit for a match-high .407 hitting percentage in the final set, as they cruised to a 25-12 third set win and 3-0 sweep of Brescia.
Lexi Broyles,
Lorelei Porter, and
Tori Wilkinson all tallied eight kills apiece to lead the Coug attack.
Alyvia Smith had a match-high 19 digs and contributed nine assists.
Kaley Lyons and
Allison Richman each had a double-double in Saturday's match. Lyons had 15 assists and 14 digs, while Richman had 12 assists and 13 digs.
The Cougars will be back-in-action next Friday, October 8, as they are set to play at Carlow University. The Cougs will stay in Piitsburgh to take on Point Park Saturday afternoon.
