PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The IU Kokomo volleyball team rolled past River States Conference foe Carlow University Friday night to stay undefeated in conference play. The Cougars are now 17-4 overall and 6-0 in the RSC.
The opening set featured back and forth action until the midway point in which IU Kokomo was able to take over. With the set tied at 11, the Cougars went on an impressive 12-0 run to take command of the set. The Cougars would win the first set 25-13.
IU Kokomo carried the momentum over from the first-set win, taking an early 8-3 lead in the second set. The Cougars would win the next seven points to take their second 12-point lead of the match. IUK cruised to a 25-9 second set win over the Celtics.
Carlow led in the early stages of the third set, but IU Kokomo eventually took over the set. Trailing 7-5, the Cougars reeled off four straight points to take a 9-7 lead and force a Carlow timeout.
IU Kokomo led by as many as eight in the final set, on their way to a 25-18 third-set win and sweep of Carlow University.
Senior
Sidney Gerig led IUK with a match-high nine kills.
Lexi Broyles added eight kills.
Alyvia Smith had a match-high 19 digs in the win, and
Kaley Lyons had a match-high 18 assists.
Allison Richman added 12 assists.
Audrey Strawsma and
Lexi Broyles each had five total blocks.
The Cougars will return to action tomorrow in Pittsburgh as they are set to play Point Park. The Pioneers sit atop the RSC West division with a conference record of 7-0. First serve is set for 12:00 P.M.
