MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Kokomo volleyball team swept Midway University on the road Friday night for their sixth-straight win. The Cougars dominated play for a majority of the match, and improved to 2-0 in River States Conference play with the win.

Alyvia Smith reached 1,000 career digs in Friday night's match at Midway. Smith has been a force to be reckoned with on the IU Kokomo back row this season. Alyvia has 308 digs through 16 matches this season, and is well on her to way topping last years total of 567.
Midway was voted to finish second in the RSC Coaches' Preseason Poll, 17 votes behind IU Kokomo in first.
The visitors of IU Kokomo took the first two points of the match for an early lead. IUK eventually extended the lead to five at 13-8 to force a Midway timeout. The Cougars led by as many as nine in the opening set, but the Eagles trimmed the lead to four to force an IUK timeout.
The Cougs managed to resettle, and would close out the first set 25-20.
IU Kokomo absolutely dominated play in the second set. Holding a 3-1 lead, the Cougars went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-1 lead. Midway utilized a 4-0 run to trim the lead to 18-12, but IUK finished the set on a 7-2 run to take a two sets to none lead.
The Eagles led early in the third set, and forced an IU Kokomo timeout while leading the Cougars 8-4. While trailing 10-8, IU Kokomo went on an impressive 10-0 behind the strong serving of
Kaley Lyons. Two of Lyons's three aces on the night came during the run.
IUK would close out the third set 25-18 to take down Midway on the road 3-0.
Midway did not have a set hitting percentage above .100 in any of the three sets.
Lexi Broyles had a team-high nine kills, while
Audrey Strawsma and
Allison Richman each added six. Richman also had two blocks and nine assists.
Kaley Lyons led the Cougs in assists with 15. Lyons had six digs, and
Alyvia Smith had a match-high 17 digs. Senior
Sidney Gerig led the team with four total blocks.
The Cougars will be back-in-action tomorrow at noon as they will travel to Portsmouth, Ohio, to take on the Shawnee State Bears. First-serve is set for noon.
