Women's Soccer Beats Bluffton University 4-0 to Finish Non-Conference Slate With a Record of 4-1-2

KOKOMO, Ind. – IU Kokomo women's soccer won their second match in three days Thursday afternoon, blanking Bluffton University 4-0. The Cougars closed out non-conference play with a stout record of 4-1-2.

IU Kokomo controlled play from the opening minute, but it took the Cougs a while to cash in. Keely Hoopingarner was attacking early, sending a shot off the crossbar in the 21st minute and soon after, forcing the goalkeeper to make two saves on well-struck shots from just outside the box.

Hoopingarner would pick up an assist in the 29th minute, setting up Kaiya Bogers nicely for a neat finish. Bogers goal, her third of the season, put the Cougars up 1-0.

Bogers and Hoopingarner would combine for another goal late in the first half, as Bogers found Hoopingarner unmarked in the box for an easy finish. Hoopingarner's ninth goal of the season gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

IU Kokomo earned a corner kick in the 62nd minute and would score on the set-piece. Kelsi Hoot delivered the ball into the box beautifully and Morgan Scruggs headed it into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead. Hoot earned her third assist of the season on Scruggs's third goal this year.

The Cougs and senior Keely Hoopingarner would put an exclamation mark on the win in the 75th minute. Hoopingarner beat the goalie in the top left corner of the goal from the top of the box, with a ball off her left foot. Hoopingarner's second goal of the night and tenth of the season gave the Cougs a commanding 4-0 lead with 15 minutes to play.

The IU Kokomo defense closed out the 4-0 win over Bluffton, allowing just three total shots, with only two of them coming on goal.

The Cougars will have a week to prepare for the beginning of River States Conference play, as they will welcome IU East to Kokomo Municipal Stadium next Thursday evening. Kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M.
