Women's Soccer Earns Shut Out Win Over In-State Foe Huntington University

KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Kokomo women's soccer team shut out Huntington University Tuesday night in a dominant 3-0 win on their home pitch. With the win, the Cougars are 3-1-2 this season, and 2-0-1 at home.

IU Kokomo controlled possession early and often Tuesday, earning three corner kicks in the first four minutes of play. It was Huntington however that had the first high-danger chance, as Paige Weiss sent a shot off of the post in the seventh minute.

IUK grad student Morgan Scruggs got the scoring started Tuesday evening, taking advantage of a beautiful pass from teammate Kaiya Bogers and beating the goalie high for a 1-0 IU Kokomo lead.

The Cougs would strike again just before halftime, as Ashlyn Morefield delivered a missile off her right foot from outside the box to beat the goalie in the top left corner of the goal. IU Kokomo took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

IU Kokomo had two more scoring chances in the second half that missed by inches. First, in the 76th minute of the match, Mackenzie Pedigo sent a ball off her left foot from an angle, bending it off the post. Lastly, Keely Hoopingarner sent a header off of the crossbar in the 83rd minute.

Hoopingarner, IUK's goalscoring leader, would be called upon in the 84th minute for a penalty shot after a Huntington University handball in the box. Hoopingarner converted calmly to give the Cougs a commanding 3-0 lead with five minutes to play. IUK would close it out to beat Huntington University 3-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Kailee Moore earned the clean sheet win in her first stint of collegiate action. Moore made seven saves over the course of 90 minutes.

The Cougars will have just one day off as they will be back-in-action Thursday afternoon against Bluffton University (Ohio). Kickoff is set for 4:00 P.M at Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
