Cougar Women's Soccer Cruises to 6-0 Win Over IU South Bend

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team earned their first win of the season Saturday afternoon, dominating IU South Bend from the opening minute for a 6-0 victory. The Cougars improved to 1-0-2 on the season.

IU Kokomo graduate student Morgan Scruggs opened the scoring Saturday afternoon with a goal in the 12th minute of the match. Scruggs's goal, assisted by Keely Hoopingarner, was the first of four goals in less than six minutes of game action.

Hoopingarner notched her third goal of the season in the 13th minute on a play that was assisted by Kaiya Bogers. Bogers, a freshman, earned her first of three points on the afternoon as well as her collegiate career with the assist. In the 16th minute, Bogers would score her first collegiate goal, unassisted, to put the Cougars in front 3-0.

Sophomore Kelsi Hoot scored her first goal of the season off of another Bogers assist in the 17th minute. The Cougs would score once more in the opening half to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. Mackenzie Pedigo put one past the goalie in the 36th minute on a play assisted by Kendra Brewer.

Keely Hoopingarner scored the Cougs final goal of the afternoon three minutes into the second half. With her second goal on the day, Hoopingarner tied a school record for goals in a match, as she and two others, including current Cougar Ashlyn Morefield, have scored two goals in a match previously.

IUK outshot IUSB 54-1, including 23-0 in shots on goal as IUK goalies Alicia Burns and Sydney Miller were not forced to make any saves on the afternoon.

The Cougars will return to the pitch Thursday, September 1, at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri for a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 P.M.
