COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team took down the Stephens College (Mo.) Stars 4-0 on the road Thursday night. The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into halftime but scored three second-half goals to win comfortably. The Cougars are now 2-0-2 on the season.
IU Kokomo senior and leading goalscorer,
Keely Hoopingarner, opened the scoring Thursday night with a goal in the 14th minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Hoopingarner's goal was the only goal of the opening half, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Less than a minute into the second half, the Cougars would find the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Kelsi Hoot came through with a beautiful service off of a free kick and forced an own goal as the ball went off of a Stars defender and into the back of the net.

Erica Bolinger came through in a big way in the 47th minute, making a save on a Stephens College penalty kick to keep the momentum on the Cougars' side. IU Kokomo would get a penalty kick of their own in the 48th minute, and Cougar sophomore
Ashlyn Morefield capitalized. Morefield beat the goalie with ease in the lower right-hand corner of the goal to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
In the 60th minute of the match, Hoopingarner sent a shot off the crossbar from just outside the box and freshman
Kaiya Bogers gathered the rebound before calmly beating the goalie with a shot in top left corner to extend the IU Kokomo lead to 4-0.
Erica Bolinger earned her first clean-sheet of the season as she made timely saves to keep the momentum on the Cougar side. Bolinger finished with six saves, including five in the second half.
The Cougars will return to the pitch for another away match Thursday, September 8, at Siena Heights University (Mich.). Kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M.
