KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team will welcome the University of Michigan-Dearborn to town Saturday afternoon to kickoff the 2022 season.

IUK second-year head coach Sohaila Akhavein and company are familiar with the Michigan-Dearborn squad as the Cougars traveled to Dearborn to take on the Wolverines this past spring. The Wolverines 2021 season saw them finish with a overall record of 2-9-1 and 1-8-1 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. 

 
The Cougars are coming into the new season after a solid first year under Akhavein's guidance. Finishing with a record of 6-9-2 and 6-4-1 in River States Conference play, the Cougs came up just short of a RSC Championship appearance, falling 1-0 in double-overtime at Point Park in the quarterfinals. 

 
Both offensively and in goal, the Cougars return a good amount of experience from last year's team. Keely Hoopingarner, Morgan Scruggs, Kelsi Hoot, and Mackenzie Gibbons are all back in the cream and crimson this year after scoring multiple goals last season. Alicia Burns and Erica Bolinger split time in goal last season and are back for the 2022 campaign.
