KOKOMO, Ind. — The IU Kokomo women's soccer team is set to begin postseason play Wednesday evening, as the fourth-seeded Cougars welcome fifth-seeded Brescia University to Kokomo Municipal Stadium for a River States Conference Tournament quarterfinal matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
IU Kokomo (6-9-2, 4-3-1 RSC) earned the right to host a postseason match after finishing fourth in the conference standings. The Cougars enter the tournament coming off a dominant 7-1 Senior Night victory over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College last Thursday, providing momentum heading into their postseason opener.
Wednesday's contest will mark the second meeting of the season between the Cougars and Bearcats, who battled to a 2-2 draw in Owensboro, Kentucky, on October 3. IU Kokomo overcame a pair of one-goal deficits in that matchup, with Madison Walczak scoring the Cougars' first goal before Kaiya Money netted the equalizer in the 87th minute. Goalkeeper Sydney Miller made eight saves as the Cougars earned a point on the road despite being outshot 26-7.
Freshman forward Kaitlyn Swartzendruber has been a driving force behind the IU Kokomo attack throughout the season, entering postseason play with a team-leading 14 goals and six assists. Swartzendruber recorded her third hat trick of the season in Thursday's regular-season finale against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, helping the Cougars close their conference schedule on a high note.
The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal will advance to Saturday's RSC Tournament semifinals, where top-seeded Rio Grande awaits. That match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Rio Grande, Ohio.
