FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team hit the road this afternoon to take on Indiana Tech in a non-conference doubleheader with the Warriors. The Cougars dropped game one of the twin bill in extra innings before the second game was suspended due to heavy rain.
The Cougars fall to 20-12 on the season with the loss in game one.
Game One Key Moments
- A leadoff home run was the first of two scored by Indiana Tech in the bottom of the first inning to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
- Jared Heard began the Cougars half of the second with a single and would go first-to-third on a Jack Leverenz double down the right field line. Thomas Obergfell reached on an infield single to load the bases. Luke Hanson picked up an RBI after drawing a bases loaded walk to cut the IUK lead in half. Tahj Borom recorded a sacrifice fly, scoring Leverenz to even things at two.
- An IU Kokomo error extended the bottom of the fourth and allowed Indiana Tech to plate two runs to take a 4-2 advantage.
- Pat Mills tied the game with one swing as the lefty blasted his 10th home run of the season, scoring Garczynski who reached on a leadoff double in the fifth.
- The IU Kokomo pitching staff issued three walks in the bottom of the fifth, allowing the Warriors to score a run and regain the lead.
- Chasing a run in the sixth, Obergfell led off with a double and moved up 90 feet after a Tucker Platt groundout. Matt Iacobucci picked up an RBI as he plated Obergfell to even the game at five.
- In extra innings, a costly error by the Cougars in the eighth ended the game with the Warriors winning 6-5.
Game One Pitching
- Sam Hinshaw got the start on the mound for the Cougars and tossed three innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out two batters.
- Dylan Steele tossed an inning in relief.
- Brandon Butlemeier was credited with the loss, tossing 3.1 innings and giving up one run on two hits.
Game Two Key Moments
- Game two was suspended in the third inning with the Warriors leading 6-0. The game will not be finished.
