KOKOMO, Ind. – It was a tale of two games on Saturday at Kokomo Municipal Stadium as the IU Kokomo Cougars and IU Southeast Grenadiers split a River States Conference doubleheader.
In the opener, IU Southeast took a 10-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but the Cougars came storming back, scoring 10 runs in the frame, capped off by a three-run shot from
Jared Heard to tie things and send the game into extra innings. A two-RBI single from
Bryce Lenz in the 11th inning, lifted the Cougars to a 12-11 victory.
In the final game of the series, the Grenadier bats were on fire. IU Southeast plated 18 runs in the seven-inning contest to claim the series over the Cougars.
Game One Key Moments
- IU Southeast plated two runs in in each of the first two innings to build a 4-0 advantage.
- Cougar starting pitcher Lucas Letsinger settled in after the second inning, retired 12 of his next 13 hitters.
- Five hits in the eighth inning allowed the Grenadiers to tack on three runs, making it 7-0.
- Three more for IU Southeast made it 10-0 with the Cougars down to their final at-bat.
- Pat Mills led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. After a single from Heard, Dylan Steele drove in the first run of the game for the Cougars.
- Masen Melton ripped a two-out double down the left field line to score two runs, making it 10-4.
- Thomas Obergfell picked up an RBI and another run scored on an IUS error to make it 10-6 and Mills followed it up with an RBI single to make it a three-run game, 10-7.
- With Sean Becker and Mills aboard, Heard sent a ball over the left field wall to tie the game at 10.
- IU Southeast regained the lead in the 11th with a run.
- Obergfell led off the Cougars half of the 11th with a single to left center. After a line out and strike out, Heard kept things going with a single to put runners at first and second. Steele loaded the bases afer being hit by a pitch, bringing Lenz to the plate. A single to left center by Lenz, completed the comeback by the Cougars.

- Letsinger struck out six batters in six innings of work.
- Ethan Leslie earned the win after tossing two innings, allowing just one run on two hits.
Game Two Key Moments
- IU Southeast jumped out to a 1-0 lead after scoring in the first inning.
- Heard picked up another RBI after driving in Obergfell who led off the inning with a single.
- In the third, Heard picked up his fifth RBI of the day to make it a 7-2 game.
- The Grenadiers plated 17 runs over the next four innings.
Game Two Pitching
- Tahj Borom made his first appearance of the season on the mound for the Cougars and tossed two innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out two Grenadier hitters.
