KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo baseball team swept Friday afternoon's doubleheader with Oakland City, winning game one 5-4 and game two 15-0. With the two conference wins, the Cougars improve to 18-8 overall and 8-0 in River States Conference play.
Game One Key Moments
- Oakland City struck first, scratching two runs across in the fourth inning on a hit and an error.
- Pat Mills broke up the Mighty Oaks' no-hit bid in the sixth with a single to left, followed by a Noah Hurlock single to left field.
- Jack Leverenz singled in Mills to make it 2-1 Oakland City after six innings.
- Thomas Obergfell tripled to center and scored on an error on the same play to tie the game at two in the seventh.
- Hurlock walked to open the eighth and would score on a Jared Heard two-run bomb, giving the Cougars a 4-2 lead.
- Dylan Steele earned a walk later in the inning and his pinch runner, Sean Becker, would come around to score on a Tucker Platt single.
- Oakland City cut the Cougar lead to 5-4 in the top of the ninth thanks to a two-RBI double, but Ryan Beck came in and took care of business to close out the game, recording the final two outs in order.
Game One Pitching
- Owen Callaghan went six innings allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
- Ethan Leslie tossed 2.1 innings in relief to earn the win and improve to 1-0.
- Leslie gave up two runs on two hits and three walks, also striking out three.
- Ryan Beck earned his fourth save of the year, recording the final two outs of the game.
Game Two Key Moments
- Pat Mills hit his seventh home run of the season in the third to give the Cougs a 1-0 lead.
- Dylan Steele came through with an RBI double to score Hurlock.
- Tucker Platt singled through the left side to score Heard and Steele to make it 4-0.
- IUK scored three more in the inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead after three innings.
- The Cougs struck for three more in the fourth thanks to two doubles, taking advantage of the two free passes in the inning.
- Dylan Janke led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and would come around to score on a Sac-fly.
- Jarod Gillespie singled to center scoring Obergfell and Mills, extending the lead to 13-0.
- Masen Melton tripled to center to score Borom and Gillespie.
Game Two Pitching
- Ben Harris tossed six strong innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking none. With the win, Harris improved to 4-2 on the season.
- Heffernan pitched a scoreless seventh in his season debut, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out one.
