Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road at Alice Lloyd

PIPPAS PASSES, Ky. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team came into Sunday's matchup at Alice Lloyd having won four of their last five games, but the Eagles proved to be too much to handle on senior day, handing the Cougars an 81-47 loss. The Cougars are now 9-12, and 6-8 in River States Conference action.

IU Kokomo struggled offensively, shooting 25% from the field while allowing Alice Lloyd to shoot 50% for the game.

The Eagles opened the scoring with a bucket on the first possession of the game, but the Cougars responded with an Anna Kiser layup assisted by Sierra Peete to knot the score at two. IU Kokomo took their first lead of the game at 6-5 after a Tia Chambers jumper. That proved to be the only lead of the day for IU Kokomo as the Eagles ended the first quarter on an 11-3 run for a 16-9 lead after one.

A Vanessa Mullins layup cut the Eagle lead to three at 19-16, but Alice Lloyd responded with a 12-0 run to build a 15 point second quarter lead. Gabrielle Joyner and Sierra Peete each drilled a trey in the final minute to trim the Eagle halftime lead to 11 at 35-24.

Alice Lloyd came out of halftime strong and managed to go on a 16-2 run to take a commanding 25-point lead halfway through the third quarter. The Eagles led 55-35 after three quarters.

IUK was able to get within 18 of the Eagles thanks to buckets from Mullins on consecutive possessions, but Alice Lloyd dominated fourth quarter play on their way to an 81-47 win.

Gabrielle Joyner paced the Cougars offensively with 14 points on four of six shooting from beyond-the-arc. Vanessa Mullins was the only other Cougar in double figures with ten points. Tia Chambers added nine points and a team-high five rebounds.

The Cougars face a quick turnaround as they will return to the hardwood Tuesday with a road game at Oakland City. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
