Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The Cougar women's basketball team lost at Grace College Tuesday afternoon as a strong second-half performance from the Lnacers propelled them to a 71-43 victory.
IU Kokomo struggled to begin the game, as the Lancers shot 50% from the field whille holding the Cougars to 9.1% shooting in the opening quarter. Grace College jumped out to a 10-0 lead before
Shamaria Walker drew a foul and drained a pair of free-throws. The Lancers took a 20-4 lead into the second quarter.
The Cougars responded well to a tough first quarter by outscoring the Lancers 18-10 in the second quarter. An
Alaya Chapman layup cut the Grace lead to eight points, but the Lancers answered with five straight points to build the lead back to thirteen at 27-14. IUK outscored Grace 8-3 in the final 3:37 of the first half to trail 30-22 at halftime.
Grace College came out of halftime strong, scoring the first nine points of the third quarter to lead by 17. After IU Kokomo cut the deficit to 12 points twice, the Lancers regained a 17 point lead and led 48-31 after three quarters.
Just as they did in the third quarter, Grace College went on a run to start the fourth quarter. The Lancers scored the first 11 points of the quarter to extend their lead to 59-31. Grace College maintained control for the remainder of the game to beat IU Kokomo 71-43.
Anya Friend led IU Kokomo in scoring with 12 points.
Anna Kiser had seven points and five rebounds while two other Cougars,
Shamaria Walker and
Ella Wolfe, each added five points.
Mia Catey had a team-high six rebounds.
The Cougars will have nine days off before returning to play December 30th at Holy Cross College (Ind.). Tip-off is set for 6:00 P.M.
