KOKOMO, Ind. - The IU Kokomo volleyball team swept Alice Lloyd in dominant fashion Friday night to stay undefeated on their home floor. With the win, the Cougars are now 26-6 overall and 15-2 in River States Conference play.
Sidney Gerig led the Cougars Friday night with ten kills in her penultimate match inside the Student Activities and Events Center. Lexi Broyles added seven kills and
Lorelei Porter had six.
Kaley Lyons and Allison Richman led IUK in passing, as Lyons had 20 assists and Richman tallied 19. Maggie Connell had nine digs and Julia Sanders had three service aces to lead IU Kokomo.
The Cougars led 5-3 early in the first set before going on a tear and winning 17 of the next 19 points to take a 22-5 lead. An Alice Lloyd attack error gave IUK a 25-7 opening set win.
Trailing by one, IU Kokomo distanced themselves with a 5-0 run via four kills to take a 12-8 lead in the second set. Leading by three at 14-11, the Cougs utilized another 5-0 run to extend their lead to eight, eventually winning the second set 25-15.
IU Kokomo led 10-5 nearly halfway through the third set, but a 10-0 run from the Cougars quickly extended the lead to 15. A
Kelsey Hammond kill on match point gave the Cougs a 25-11 third-set win and 3-0 sweep over the Eagles of Alice Lloyd.
The Cougars will close out the regular season tomorrow at home for Senior Day against Midway. First-serve is set for 12:00 P.M.
