RIO GRANDE, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team fell 71-66 to Washington Adventist University Friday afternoon at Rio Grande's Bevo Francis Classic. The Cougars are now 3-1 on the season.
A
Hunter White jumper on the first IUK possession gave the Cougars an early 2-0 lead, but Washington Adventist controlled play for a majority of the first half. The Shock led 18-10 with ten minutes remaining in the first half, but the Cougars responded with a 9-0 run to take a 19-18 lead and force a WAU timeout.
A Dell DeMeyers deep-ball gave IU Kokomo a one-point lead with 28 seconds to go in the half, but a last-second three-pointer from the Shock gave WAU a 37-35 halftime lead.
Washington Adventist continued their strong play early in the second half, extending their lead to 11 with 13:21 remaining in the game. A 12-0 run from the Cougars, capped off by a
Zach Rinehart three-pointer, gave IUK a 57-56 lead, their first lead of the second half.
The Shock responded to the IUK run with an 8-0 run of their own to lead 64-57. The Cougars got within a possession thanks to a Jerron Tatum shot-clock beating triple with 53 seconds remaining, but Washington Adventist hit a fadeaway jumper to seal a 71-66 win over IU Kokomo.
IUK was led by
Darian Porch and Ty Wills offensively, as each scored 11 points. Porch also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and dished a team-high four assists.
Zach Rinehart and Jerron Tatum each added nine points, and
Hunter White had eight points to go along with five boards.
The Cougars will return to the floor Saturday for one more game at the Bevo Francis Classic against Carolina University. Tip-off is set for 1:00 P.M.
