RIO GRANDE, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo women's soccer team took down Rio Grande 5-1 on the road Thursday night. With the victory, the Cougars are now 7-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in River States Conference action.

IU Kokomo struck first in the 18th minute, as Skylar Mannon scored her second goal of the season off of a Kaiya Bogers assist. A cross from the right side from Bogers set Mannon up for a 1-0 lead.

Rio Grande managed three shots on goal over the next 14 minutes, but all three were saved by freshman goalkeeper Kailee Moore.

In the 41st minute the Cougars earned a penalty kick when Kaiya Bogers took the ball into the box and was taken down. Keely Hoopingarner took the PK for the Cougs and converted for a 2-0 IUK lead.

Before halftime, Rio Grande's Ashton Snider was issued a red card, giving IU Kokomo a one player advantage for the remainder of the match. The Cougs led 2-0 at the break.

Five minutes into the second half, sophomore Kelsi Hoot beat the keeper high from 35 yards out to give iUK a 3-0 lead. 

Ashlyn Morefield added a goal for the Cougs in the 70th minute, beating the keeper with a shot from the left side of the box. Morefield's fourth goal of the season gave IU Kokomo a 4-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining.

In the 77th minute Keely Hoopingarner notched her second goal of the night, beating the goalkeeper with a left footed shot. Hoopingarner's 15th goal of the season extended the IUK lead to 5-0.

Rio Grande would score in the 83rd minute on a corner kick, but IU Kokomo would close out a 5-1 win over the Red Storm. 

Kailee Moore made nine saves on ten Rio Grande shots on goal.

The Cougars will head to West Virginia to take on West Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1:00 P.M.
