ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball fell 65-49 at Concordia University (Mich.) Saturday evening to fall to 2-0 early in the season.
Concordia jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead three minutes into the game, but IU Kokomo quickly settled in. The Cougars took their first lead of the game at 7-6 thanks to an
Anya Friend three-pointer.
Freshman Emma Good scored on consecutive possessions for her first points of her collegiate career, giving the Cougs an 11-8 lead.
Anna Kiser scored with five seconds remaining in the opening quarter to give IU Kokomo an 18-16 lead after one quarter.
IU Kokomo continued their strong play in the second quarter, scoring ten of the first 11 points of the period to build an 11 point lead. The Cougars eventually hit a dry-spell, as they were unable to score for the remaining 6:47 of the first half. The Cardinals hit four-straight treys and took a 36-30 lead into halftime.
The Cougars managed to cut the Cardinal lead to four on two occasions, but Concordia outscored IU Kokomo 18-11 in the third quarter to take a 54-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
Concordia maintained a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter and went on to beat the Cougars 65-49.
Anya Friend led IUK offensively with nine points. Alaya Chapman scored eight points and grabbed 5 boards in her first start as a Cougar.
Anna Kiser and
Kristen Ridner each added seven points, and Kiser pulled down a team-leading six rebounds.
The Cougars will return to play this Wednesday, November 2nd, as they travel to northern Indiana to take on Goshen College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 P.M.
