Women's Soccer Beats Carlow 2-1; Will Play for RSC Regular Season Title Saturday Against Point Park

Box Score KOKOMO, Ind. – The IU Kokomo women's soccer team took down Carlow University 2-1 Thursday night to improve 8-0-1 in River States Conference play.

Saturday's home match against Point Park will be for the RSC regular season title and home-field advantage throughout the conference tournament, as both teams are 8-0-1 in RSC action.

IU Kokomo controlled play early and often against Carlow, but the match was scoreless at the half. The Cougars outshot the Celtics 10-5 in the opening half, and 5-3 in shots on goal.

Less than five minutes into the second half, IU Kokomo goalscoring leader Keely Hoopingarner found the back of the net to give IU Kokomo a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute.

Brooklyn Garber sent a free kick into the box where Hoopingarner received it and beat the goalkeeper to the ball and scored. Hoopingarners 18th goal of the season was set up by Garber's first assist of the year.

Morgan Scruggs was fouled inside the box in the 60th minute, giving IU Kokomo a chance to build their lead with a penalty kick. Keely Hoopingarner converted the penalty kick, her 19th goal of the season, to extend the IUK lead to 2-0.

Carlow was given a penalty kick when IUK's Ashlyn Morefield was called for a foul inside the box after getting tangled up with a Celtic player. Carlow's Erin Thompson barely beat Cougar goalkeeper Kailee Moore to cut the IU Kokomo lead to 2-1 in the 87th minute.

Kailee Moore made a stellar save late in the game to help the Cougars close out a 2-1 win over Carlow.

The Cougars will return to the pitch Saturday as they host Point Park. Kickoff is set for 1:00 P.M.
