KOKOMO, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team will open 2022 regular season play Thursday night against University of Michigan-Dearborn before taking on Concordia University (Mich.) Saturday evening.The Cougars first six games of the season will be on the road.

Thursday's game will not take place on the campus of Michigan-Dearborn due to their gym being under construction. The season-opener will be held at the Matthaei Center on the campus of Wayne State in Detroit.

IU Kokomo is coming off of a 2021 season that saw them finish the year with a record of 10-15, and a 7-11 River States Conference record. The Cougars lost their leading scorer from last year but return sophomore Anya Friend, the Cougs second-leading scorer. Friend also led IU Kokomo in three-point shooting last season.

Second-year head coach John Kenger's squad will have a new look this season, as there are ten newcomers on the team this year, including eight freshmen and two transfers.

The Wolverines of Michigan-Dearborn finished the 2021-2022 season with a record of 11-19. Thursday night's matchup will be both teams first game of the season. Michigan-Dearborn played two River States Conference opponents last season, beating IU Southeast and falling to IU East, just as IU Kokomo did.

IU Kokomo is 2-0 all-time against Michigan-Dearborn, having won both games by double-digits with the last meeting coming in the 2017-2018 season.

Concordia University (Mich.) will host IU Kokomo Saturday evening to open up their 2022-2023 campaign. The Cardinals ended the 2021-2022 season with an overall record of 19-12., as their season came to a close in the WHAC tournament semifinals. 

The Cardinals and Cougars played four common opponents last season, including three River States Conference teams. Concordia went 1-3 against those teams while IU Kokomo was 1-4. Saturday's game will be the first meeting all-time between the two programs.
