OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The IU Kokomo women's soccer team won 1-0 Thursday afternoon at Oakland City for their fourth-straight win. The Cougars are now 9-1-3 overall and 5-0-1 in conference, and they sit atop the River States Conference standings with four matches remaining.
Less than two minutes into the match, IU Kokomo earned their first corner-kick. Nothing came of it, but the pressure was already on.
Brooklyn Garber had the Cougars first shot on-goal of the match, forcing the Oakland City goalkeeper to make her first save in the eighth minute.
In the 15th minute,
Skylar Mannon threaded the needle with a beautiful through ball to
Kelsi Hoot who calmly avoided the goalie and found the back of the net, giving IUK a 1-0 lead. The goal was Hoot's fifth of the season, and she is now tied with
Morgan Scruggs for second on the team in goals.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Mighty Oaks outshot the Cougars 4-2 in the second half, but only one of the four shots was on-goal and
Kailee Moore made the save. Each team had just one shot on-goal in the second half.
IUK went on to win one nil for their seventh win in the last eight games.
IU Kokomo freshman goalkeeper
Kailee Moore made her team-leading sixth start of the season. Moore was forced to make just four saves in the match thanks to strong defensive play from the Cougars.
Senior
Keely Hoopingarner was the only Cougar with multiple shots, putting all three of her shots on goal.
The Cougars will return to the pitch next Thursday, October 20th, as they will welcome Ohio Christian to Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 P.M.
