Men's Basketball Holds Off Point Park to Extend Streak to Six

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The streak continues for the Indiana University Kokomo men's basketball team as they escaped with an 83-80 victory over Point Park University on Thursday night. The Cougars move to 18-3 overall and 8-1 in River States Conference action. 
 
The Cougars led from start-to-finish in the first 20 minutes of action. Hunter White started the scoring for IU Kokomo and the Cougars proceeded to go on a 9-2 run to open the game. 
 
Julien Hunter gave the Cougars their first double-figure lead when the sophomore converted a layup to put IUK up 22-11 with 12:35 to play in the half. Allante Harper knocked down a three at the 11:44 mark to give IUK its largest lead of the half at 14 points. 
 
The Pioneers got back in the game using a 13-5 run to cut the Cougar lead to 30-24 with 8:34 to go in the half. 
 
Xavier Hines had the hot hand for IU Kokomo over the final five minutes of the half, scoring 10 points to send IUK to the locker room with a 47-39 advantage. 
 
The first five minutes of the second half belonged to the Pioneers. Desean Hampton had a dunk for the Cougars, but Point Park used a 12-3 run to cut their deficit to 52-51 forcing IUK to call a timeout. 
 
The game remained close for the duration with Point Park getting within one point of the IUK lead on multiple occasions. A Trequan Spivey jumpshot with 3:42 to play in the game gave the Cougars an eight point advantage but with 54 seconds left, the Pioneers trailed by just three. An empty possession by the Cougars gave Point Park the ball with 27 seconds left trailing by just three points. After a timeout with 11 seconds to go, the Pioneers had two chances from long distance to tie but missed both shots, giving IUK their sixth straight victory. 
 
Four Cougars finished in double figures led by Harper and Hines who each scored 16. Spivey recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 assists while Hampton recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. 
 
IU Kokomo shot 54 percent from the floor and 50 percent from deep in the victory. 
 
The Cougars will have a short break before taking on Carlow on Saturday. The game will be played at Donahue Pavilion on the campus of Oakland Catholic High School. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
 
Fans will not be permitted to Saturday's game.
