SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team picked up its fourth River States Conference victory on Tuesday as the Cougars took down Saint Mary of the Woods College, 3-0 at the Jeanne Knoerle Center. IU Kokomo moves to 12-8 overall on the season with a 4-1 conference mark.
The Pomeroys jumped out to an early 6-2 advantage but a 9-1 run by the Cougars gave IUK an 11-7 lead. IU Kokomo held Saint Mary of the Woods to just six points in the rest of the first set, claiming a 25-13 win.
In the second, the Cougars dominated by building an 11-1 lead. IU Kokomo cruised to a 25-11 victory in the second set. The Cougars held the Pomeroys to a -.094 hitting percentage in the middle set while IUK hit a match-best .214.
What turned out to be the third and final set was the most competitive of the night between the Cougars and the Pomeroys. With the set tied at five, IU Kokomo went on a 7-2 run to make it 12-7, forcing Saint Mary of the Woods to call their first timeout of the set. IU Kokomo maintained its lead throughout the set, but the Pomeroys managed to get within a point on multiple occasions but the Cougars withstood the comeback attempt.
Erinn Adam gave the Cougars their first of four match points but Saint Mary of the Woods extended the match each time before an attack error ended the match.
Audrey Strawsma led the attack for the Cougars, accounting for seven of the teams' 31 kills on the evening.
IU Kokomo has now won 30 of their last 34 RSC contests dating back to the 2019 season.
IU Kokomo will continue conference play this weekend as they host Point Park on Friday and Carlow on Saturday at the Student Activities and Events Center.
