KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team picked up its second win in as many matches on Saturday as the Cougars took down Oakland City University, 1-0 to move to 2-5-1 on the year and 2-1-0 in River States Conference action.
Keely Hoopingarner wasted no time scoring her third goal of the season as the junior scored in the 19th minute to give the Cougars the early 1-0 advantage.
The IU Kokomo defense kept the Oakland City attack in check for the duration of the half. It was not until the 35th minute when the Mighty Oaks put their first shot on goal but IUK keeper,
Alicia Burns turned the shot away, keeping the Cougars' clean sheet intact for the first half.
The Cougars took five shots in the final 15 minutes of the match, but none found the back of the net. However, Burns would go on to make three saves in the second half to secure her first collegiate shutout and victory.
The shutout if the first of the year for IU Kokomo. The Cougars outshot the Might Oaks, 10-7 but the shots on goal were even at four apiece.
Up next, IU Kokomo will embark on its longest road trip of the year, a four-game stand starting with a trip to Pittsburgh on Thursday, October 30 to take on Carlow University.
