PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team earned its third straight victory on Thursday night with a 3-1 triumph over River States Conference opponent, Carlow University. The win improves the Cougars conference record to 3-1-0, putting them in a tie for second with their second opponent this weekend, Point Park University.
Keely Hoopingarner continued her goal streak in the win as the junior netted her third goal in as many matches. Hoopingarner took a pass from
Madison Gregory and beat the Carlow defender and goalkeeper to put the Cougars ahead 1-0 in the 26th minute. The goal was the fourth of the season for Hoopingarner.
In the 41st minute, Carlow took advantage of a IU Kokomo penalty and scored directly off a free kick for the equalizer just before halftime.
Just eight minutes into the second half, freshman
Kelsi Hoot dribbled down the left side of the field, beating the Carlow defense and slid a ball past the keeper to put IU Kokomo back in front. The goal is the second in the last three matches for Hoot, whos first came against West Virginia Tech in overtime to give the Cougars the 2-1 win, starting their three-match winning streak.
Mackenzie Pedigo added an insurance goal for the Cougars in the 78th minute as she cleaned up after
Mackenzie Gibbons initial shot was denied by the Carlow keeper. The goal was the first of the season for Pedigo.
Erica Bolinger got the start between the pipes for the Cougars and the junior made six saves to earn her second win of the season.
The Cougars won the total shots battle over the Celtics, outshooting them 12-7 in the victory.
IU Kokomo's current three-game winning streak is tied for the longest in program history.
The Cougras will return to Highmark Stadium on Saturday to take on Point Park University in a pivotal RSC matchup.
