NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team bounced back after a loss to Midway on Friday night to defeat IU Southeast, 3-0 for their first road River States Conference victory of the season. The win marks their sixth 3-0 victory of the season and moves their overall record to 9-6 including a 2-1 RSC mark.
Erinn Adam and
Audrey Strawsma each had solid offensive performance as Adam led the way with 12 kills and Strawsma added 10. Strawsma hit a team-high .450 in the win.
As a team the Cougars hit .248 and held the Grenadiers to a .086 hitting percentage.
The Cougars and Grenadiers battled in the opening set as it took extra points for IUK to come away with a win. Facing two set points, Strawsma and
Lorelei Porter each came up with a timely kill to extend the set. With the set even at 30, Strawsma delivered another clutch kill and
Maggie Connell followed that up with an ace to give the Cougars a 1-0 match lead.
In the middle set, the Grenadiers hung around early, but IU Kokomo kept their foot on the gas after taking a 4-3 lead and never looked back. The Cougars led by as many as seven points in the set, eventually winning 25-17 to take a 2-0 advantage.
In the third and final set, it looked as if IU Southeast ran out of gas. The Cougars held the Grenadiers to just 12 points in the set.
Alyvia Smith finished with a match-high 30 digs while
Kendal Williams led all players with 26 assists.
The Cougars will continue RSC action next week as they travel to Oakland City on Tuesday, September 21.
