MIDWAY, Ky. – The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team took on Midway University in their first River States Conference road contest of the season on Friday night. The Cougars and Eagles battled, going five sets with Midway outlasting IUK for a 3-2 victory.

Midway started the match with five unanswered points but a kill from Hack got the Cougars on the board. IUK battled back into the set, getting within two points of the Midway lead, and staying within striking distance for most of the set. Back-to-back attack errors from the Eagles made it a one-point difference at 14-13. Midway took control of the opening frame when a short 4-1 run to make it 24-18. The Cougars would score the next two points but were unable to hold off the Midway attack as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead with a 25-20 victory.
The second set was much of the same as Midway jumped out to the early 7-0 lead. The deficit was too much for the Cougars to overcome as Midway took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 win.
The Cougars were started a bit quicker in the third set, eventually taking a 10-6 lead over the Eagles. IU Kokomo stayed in front for the duration of the set, winning 25-18 to keep the match alive.
The teams traded points in the early goings of the fourth set until Midway went on a short 3-0 run to take a 9-6 lead and force an IU Kokomo timeout. Out of the timeout, the Cougars answered with a 5-2 run to even the set at 11. Leading 14-12, two Midway attack errors extended the IU Kokomo lead to 16-12. With a seven point lead, their largest of the set, The Cougars gave up five straight points to make it 23-21. IU Kokomo called its final timeout of the set to stop the Midway momentum and they did just that as the Cougars scored the final two points of the set to win 25-21 and force a decisive fifth set.
IU Kokomo fell behind 3-0 early in the race to 15 and called its first timeout. Trailing 9-5, the Cougars scored three consecutive points to cut the Midway lead to just one. That would be as close as the Cougars would get as the Eagles closed out the set, winning 15-12 to earn their first win over IU Kokomo in their last 15 tries.
