UPLAND, Ind. - The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team played their final non-conference contest on Monday night as they made the short trip across US-35 to take on the Trojans of Taylor University.
The Trojans struck early and often, scoring two goals in the first 2-0 minutes of action. In the 24th minute,
Mackenzie Gibbons fired the first shot of the match for the Cougars that was blocked by a Trojan defender. Just 10 minutes before halftime, the Trojans added onto their lead, scoring their third goal of the match. Taylor's 3-0 lead would hold heading into halftime.
Just seconds into the final 45 minutes,
Keely Hoopingarner ripped a shot that sailed wide of the net. On the counter attack, the Trojans netted another goal to take a 4-0 advantage over the Cougars.
In the 56th minute, Gibbons and
Haley Abel each placed a shot on frame but the Trojans keeper made both saves to keep the clean sheet intact. Taylor added three more goals in the final 20 minutes to cruise to a 7-0 victory.
The Cougars will begin River States Conference action on Thursday as they host Ohio Valley University at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
