Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Point Park University Saturday afternoon in double-overtime.
IU Kokomo outshot Point Park 27-14, including 8-6 in shots-on-goal.
Kelsi Hoot led the Cougars with seven shots, while
Morgan Scruggs had six and
Keely Hoopingarner added five.
Similar to the Cougars regular season matchup against the Pioneers, the match was tightly contested throughout. The first half was especially close, and it saw the Cougars narrowly outshoot the Pioneers 8-6. IU Kokomo finished the half strong with two shot opportunities for
Morgan Scruggs, with both going wide-right.
The Cougars carried the offensive momentum over to the second half, earning six shots in the first five minutes of the final half. A shot from IU Kokomo's
Madison Gregory in the 46
th minute hit off the crossbar, and
Keely Hoopingarner gathered the rebound and missed high. Despite outshooting Point Park 15-7 in the second half, IU Kokomo was unable to find the back of the net. The match remained scoreless at the end of regulation.
The first overtime period saw four total shots, all coming from the Cougars, but the match remained scoreless after one overtime period.
In the first minute of the second overtime, TaMaya Wolford found the back of the net for Point Park, giving the Pioneers the golden goal victory over IU Kokomo. The goal was assisted by Athena Beck.
With the loss in the River States Conference tournament quarterfinals, the Cougars finish the season with an overall record of 6-9-2, and a RSC record of 6-4-1. IU Kokomo's six conference wins this season set a program record.
