KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's basketball team fell to conference foe Oakland City Tuesday evening, 88-62. With the loss, the Cougars are now 1-7 and 0-4 in River States Conference play.
Oakland City scored the first eight points of the contest before IU Kokomo scored five straight points to cut the lead to three. The Mighty Oaks outscored the Cougars 10-4 over the final three and a half minutes of the opening quarter.
An
Anya Friend layup on the fastbreak opened the scoring in the second quarter and cut the Oakland City lead to single digits. Friend had seven second quarter points on 3-3 shooting from the field in the period, but the Mighty Oaks controlled play and took a 48-22 lead into halftime.
The second half proved to be a tale of two quarters. Oakland City outscored IU Kokomo by twelve in the third quarter, but the Cougars responded by outscoring the Mighty Oaks by 12 in the fourth quarter.
The Cougars were led by
Gabrielle Joyner with 17 points while
Anya Friend added 15.
IU Kokomo will return to the court Saturday afternoon, December 4, as they host Midway University in another RSC matchup. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
