KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team extended its winning streak to four on Friday night as the Cougars swept the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian University. The sweep is the fourth straight 3-0 victory for IUK and their 11th of the season.
The win moves the Cougars overall record to 15-8 and 7-1 in River States Conference action.
Erinn Adam led all players with 10 kills as the fifth-year senior hit .389 in the victory.
Sidney Gerig and
Audrey Strawsma each added seven kills while
Jocelyn Hack and
Kelsey Hammond each chipped in with five.
In the opening set, the Cougars built an early 9-3 lead forcing the Trailblazers to take their first timeout. With an 11-5 lead, IUK scored five unanswered points capped off by two service aces from
Kaley Lyons, giving the Cougars the 16-5 lead. Hack closed out the set with a kill to give the Cougars the 25-13 victory.
The Cougars started quick in the second set, jumping out to an early 9-1 lead over the Trailblazers. IUK would extend its lead to 18-7, prompting the OCU timeout. Strawsma would end the second set with a kill to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the match.
The final set was one of runs in favor of the Cougars. IUK started the set on an 8-2 run. The Cougars would use a 6-0 run to take a 23-8 lead. Ohio Christian went on their biggest run of the match, a 3-0 spurt to make it 23-11 but kills from Hammond and Gerig would close out the Trailblazers.
IU Kokomo will return to action tomorrow as they welcome Ohio Valley University to the Student Activities and Events Center. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
