KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball team picked up its 10th straight win over the Carlow Celtics on Saturday afternoon as the Cougars cruised to a 3-0 victory, their eighth sweep of Carlow in 10 meetings and third straight win.
The Cougars dominated from start to finish, holfing the Celtics to just 37 points over three sets, including just eight in the final set.
Jocelyn Hack and
Erica Packwood got things going for the Cougars in the opening set as Hack picked up her first kill of the match to put IUK up 1-0. On the ensuing serve, Packwood added to her team-best 33 aces with her first of the match to make it 2-0, IU Kokomo. With a 5-4 lead, the Cougars scored five unanswered to take a 10-4 advantage. The Cougars kept their foot on the gas for the duration of the set, winning 25-12 to take a 1-0 match lead.
It was much of the same in the second set for the Cougars, Carlow kept it close for the first 12 points, but a 5-0 run turned a 6-6 tie into an 11-6 IUK advantage. After the run turned into 7-1, Carlow took a timeout. The Cougars would add another point to make it an 8-1 before Carlow scored their next point. The Cougars sailed to a 25-17 victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
Kelsey Hammond provided a spark off the bench for the Cougars throughout the match as the sophomore registered eight kills in nine attempts, hitting .889 in the match.
In the third and final set, the Cougars collected 15 kills while committing just one error, hitting .538. IU Kokomo dominated the set from start-to-finish, winning 25-8 to secure the 3-0 sweep of the Celtics.
The IU Kokomo defense came up with nine total blocks, led by Hack who had four.
Erinn Adam added three while
Audrey Strawsma chipped in with two.
Kendal Williams saw all the assist opportunities in the win as the senior dished out a season-high 41.
The Cougars will return to the court next Friday as they host Ohio Christian University at the Student Activities and Events Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
