Box Score KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo Women's soccer team dropped a tightly contested matchup to conference foe Rio Grande, 2-1. Despite scoring first and leading at halftime, the Cougars were unable to hold on to the lead. The loss drops the Cougars to 4-8-2 overall, and 4-4-1 in River States Conference play.
The Cougars outshot the RedStorm 15-7 in the loss.
IU Kokomo struck first on a
Morgan Scruggs laser of a shot from about 35 yards out. Scruggs goal, her fourth of the season, came in the 28
th minute and gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
In the 55
th minute, Rio Grande knotted things up at one, on a goal from Chase Davis. The RedStorm would quickly strike again in the 58
th minute, to make it 2-1, as Christa Hopper beat IU Kokomo goalie
Alicia Burns.
The Cougars had a couple scoring chances offensively in the last 30 minutes of the match but were unable to net the equalizer.
Morgan Scruggs and
Mackenzie Gibbons led the Cougars with four shots each.
Keely Hoopingarner added three.
IUK will next play this Saturday, October 23, as they hit the road to take on Ohio Christian University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
