KOKOMO, Ind. – The Indiana University Kokomo women's soccer team got back into the win column Saturday afternoon, beating the Bearcats of Brescia, 2-1. The win moves the Cougars to 4-7-2 overall and 4-3-1 in River States Conference play.
IU Kokomo outshot Brescia 21-5 in the victory.
The Cougars struck early with a
Kelsi Hoot goal in the ninth minute. Hoot's first shot of the sequence was deflected by the Bearcat goalie; however, Hoot was able to gather the ball and finish the play to give IU Kokomo a 1-0 lead just ten minutes into the game.
IU Kokomo added to the lead in the 41
st minute behind a goal from
Mackenzie Gibbons, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead. The goal was Gibbons first of the season.
In the 68
th minute, the Bearcats got on the board as Isabella McChessney beat IUK goalie
Alicia Burns.
Kelsi Hoot,
Mackenzie Gibbons, and
Keely Hoopingarner led IU Kokomo with four shots each.
The Cougars will be back in action on Thursday, October 21, as they host the University of Rio Grande at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
