Josh Colvin serves as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Indiana University Kokomo. Initially hired in 2017 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator to help launch the IU Kokomo track & field program, Colvin was elevated to the program’s first full-time Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach in January 2022. Since his arrival, he has overseen the rapid rise of IU Kokomo into one of the premier emerging programs in the NAIA.
Under Colvin’s leadership, IU Kokomo has developed into a national contender across both cross country and track & field, producing multiple individual All-Conference performers, conference champions, national qualifiers, seven All-Americans, one national runner-up, and two national champions. The Cougars have also earned multiple team podium finishes, including men’s cross country conference runner-up finishes twice, women’s indoor track & field conference runner-up finishes twice, and a women’s outdoor track & field runner-up finish.
The pinnacle of Colvin’s tenure came during the 2026 outdoor season, when IU Kokomo delivered the strongest national championship performance in program history. The women’s track & field team placed fourth at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships, marking the highest national finish in program history and the highest finish ever by a River States Conference program in cross country or track & field championship history. The Cougars totaled 30 team points while qualifying just two athletes, with junior Sydney Duncan accounting for all 30 points in one of the most dominant individual performances in NAIA history.
Duncan captured national championships in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus to lead IU Kokomo to its historic finish, becoming the Most Valuable Performer of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. She became just the second athlete in NAIA history to complete the “triple crown” in the throws at a single national meet, and her performance elevated her career total to six NAIA national titles across indoor and outdoor competition.
Since 2021, Colvin’s programs have also demonstrated sustained academic excellence, with both men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s track & field earning multiple NAIA All-Academic Team honors.
Prior to IU Kokomo, Colvin accumulated extensive coaching experience dating back to 2000 at the high school and junior high levels, including stops at Marion High School, Mississinewa High School, and Eastbrook Junior High and High School. He also brings a decorated background as a former collegiate athlete at Eastern Kentucky University, where he competed in cross country and track & field from 1992–95 and earned three All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in cross country.
A standout prep athlete at Marion High School, Colvin still holds the school’s cross country record and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a three-time All-North Central Conference performer and a two-time Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches All-State selection.
Colvin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University. He credits longtime mentor Terry Lakes, along with John Foss and Quinn White, as key influences in his coaching development and philosophy.
He resides in Greentown with his wife, Leah.
