The Cougar Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, Josh Colvin, is starting his 8th year as a member of the coaching staff. He was hired in 2017 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator and also to help start the track and field program at IUK. He was named IUK's first ever full-time XCTF Head Coach in January 2022.
Under Colvin's tutelage the cross country and track and field programs have grown and flourished. Since 2021, the Cougars have produced multiple individual all-conference athletes, multiple individual and relay conference champions, multiple national qualifiers, 7 All-Americans, 1 National Runner-Up, and 1 National Champion. Colvin's men's cross country teams have been Conference Runner-Up twice and the women's indoor track and field teams have twice been Conference Runner-Up and the women's outdoor track and field teams have been Conference Runner-Up once. Men's and Women's Cross Country has been named to the NAIA All-Academic Team in 2021, 2022 and 2023,. Men's and Women's Track and Field has been named to the NAIA All-Academic Team in 2022, 2023, and 2024. 13 Cross Country and Track and Field Individuals have been named to the NAIA All-Academic Team since 2021.
Colvin has an abundance of experience as both an assistant coach and a head coach in cross country and track and field dating back to 2000. He has had coaching experience at Marion High School, Mississinewa High School, and Eastbrook Junior High and High School prior to coaching at IUK.
Colvin graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and then continued on to earn his Master’s Degree for Educational Administration and Supervision & Building Level Administrator’s Licensure from Ball State as well.
Prior to attending Ball State, Colvin ran for the Cross Country and Track and Field teams at Eastern Kentucky University from 1992-1995. During this time, he was named a three-time member of the All-Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Team.
Colvin ran cross country and track events at Marion High School where he still has the cross country school record and is in the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a three-time member of the All-North Central Conference Cross Country and Track and Field teams and was a two-time Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches All-State Cross Country Runner.
Colvin has had many great coaches, mentors, athletes, and friends in the world of cross country and track and field. His high cross country and track and field coach, Terry Lakes, had the biggest influence on Coach Colvin's life and career. Coach Lakes is a phenomenal coach, mentor, friend, husband, and father. Coach Colvin strives to have the same influence on his athletes as Coach Lakes did/does for him. Coach Colvin also considers John Foss, former head coach at IWU, and Quinn White, head coach at Taylor University as mentors and friends.
