MARION, Ind. — IU Kokomo men's cross country turned in its best finish in program history at the IWU Twilight Invitational Friday, placing sixth among 17 teams with 233 points and a team time of 1:39:42. Sophomore
Karter Jackson led the way for the Cougars, finishing 16th overall and setting a new program 6K record with a time of 19:04.6.
Due to excessive heat in central Indiana, the meet schedule was adjusted and the men's race was shortened from its originally scheduled 8K distance to a 6K.
Jackson's record-setting performance led a strong showing throughout the IU Kokomo lineup, as each of the Cougars' top nine finishers recorded a time that ranks among the 10 fastest men's 6K performances in program history. Drew Lovelace followed Jackson in 44th with a time of 19:40.6, while Rudy Bowman placed 80th in 20:16.2 and Daylen Schrock finished 88th in 20:19.5.
"Our men ran extremely well tonight despite the hot weather," head coach Josh Colvin said. "This is our highest finish ever at this meet, and we can still be better. Karter ran a smart race, and Rudy Bowman surprised me a bit with his performance. We have some team goals that we want to reach, and we are moving in the right direction."
