KOKOMO, Ind. — IU Kokomo swept WVU Tech 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-14) on Friday. The Cougars finished with 43 kills, a .327 hitting percentage, a season high for the 2026-27 season, and 12 service aces, compared with 22 kills, a .110 percentage, and two aces for WVU Tech.
First Set
- After a WVU Tech service error started the set, Chloe Carpenter served an ace and the Cougars built a 3-0 lead; when WVU Tech got within 3-2, kills by Mya Grigsby and Trishell Johnson and back-to-back Alexa Miedema aces helped make it 8-3. Grigsby achieved a season-high hitting percentage of .667.
- Gracelynn Olson then served five straight points from 8-3 to 13-3, with Grigsby recording four kills in that span and Olson adding an ace.
- Natalie Sevier served consecutive aces and Cali Cummings added a kill during a four-point Cougar run that made it 20-6 After the Cougars reached set point at 24-7, Cummings closed the 25-8 set with a kill from Rylee Springer.
Second Set
- The set stayed close early, with the Cougars using consecutive Sevier kills to move ahead 9-7 before a Johnson kill put the Cougars up 15-13.
- WVU Tech answered with five straight points, including two kills and two aces, to move in front 18-15.
- The Cougars responded after a WVU Tech service error, as Miedema served four straight points with a Cummings kill and three aces to push the Cougars ahead 20-18. Miedema achieved a career-high total of seven service aces.
- After WVU Tech pulled within one at 20-19, the Cougars scored the final five points behind kills from Cummings and Sevier to close the set 25-19.
Third Set
- Sevier opened the set with a kill, and the Cougars used three early WVU Tech attack errors to move ahead 4-0 before carrying a 5-2 edge into the next stretch.
- The Cougars won the next seven points to build a 12-2 lead, with Mia Niekamp putting down four kills, Miedema adding an ace and Springer and Ryleigh Hamilton adding kills during the run.
- WVU Tech put together a late four-point stretch to cut the score to 21-13, but Alexis Baney answered with a kill and the Cougars closed the set 25-14 on kills from Hamilton and Niekamp.

The Cougars will return to action in less than 24 hours, as they will host Rio Grande Saturday at 1:00 PM inside the Student Activities & Events Center.
