Deadlocked Through Six, Cougars Fall to No. 20 IU Southeast in Tournament Opener

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio. - The IU Kokomo baseball team opened River States Conference Tournament play Thursday morning with a 6-3 loss to No. 20 IU Southeast, as the Grenadiers pulled away after the game was tied through six innings.

With the loss, the sixth-seeded Cougars move into an elimination game against fifth-seeded Brescia on Thursday at 11:00 AM.

THE RUNDOWN
  • IU Kokomo jumped out early in the first, loading the bases before Rodney Rachel delivered an RBI single to plate the game's first run. A sacrifice fly from Corbin Napier brought home another, giving the Cougars a quick 2-0 advantage.
  • IU Southeast answered immediately with a solo home run from Coulter Hamilton in the bottom half, trimming the lead to 2-1 after one.
  • After IUK left a runner stranded in the second, IU Southeast threatened with bases loaded but couldn't capitalize, keeping the score at 2-1.
  • The Grenadiers evened things up in the third inning on a solo shot from Bryson Arnette, knotting the game at 2-2.
  • IU Southeast took its first lead in the fourth, using a stolen base and an RBI single from Hamilton to go in front 3-2.
  • The Cougars were held quiet through the middle innings before breaking through in the sixth.
