Cougars Complete Sweep of Midway on Senior Day with Late-Game Heroics

KOKOMO, Ind. - The Cougars closed out a three-game series sweep of Midway on Saturday afternoon at Kokomo Municipal Stadium, taking both games of a Senior Day doubleheader after opening the series with a walk-off win on Friday.

THE RUNDOWN
  • IU Kokomo earned a walk-off victory in extra innings, scoring twice in the bottom of the 11th to take a 7–6 win over Midway in the opening game of Saturday's Senior Day doubleheader.
  • The Cougars struck first in the opening inning when Rodney Rachel delivered a two-run double down the left-field line, scoring Payton Hankins and Nate Montgomery to give IU Kokomo a 2–0 lead.
  • Midway answered with two runs in the second inning, using an RBI double and a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to even the game at 2–2.
  • IU Kokomo regained the lead in the fifth after Jedvier Garcia walked and eventually scored on an RBI walk by Rachel before a wild pitch plated another run to make it 4–2.
  • The Eagles responded with three runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Alex Scoular and a wild pitch that allowed the go-ahead run to score.
  • Trailing 5–4 in the ninth inning, Rachel tied the game with a solo home run to left-center, forcing extra innings.
  • Midway briefly reclaimed the lead with a solo home run in the top of the 11th.
  • The Cougars answered in the bottom half as Hankins walked and Montgomery doubled to put the tying and winning runs in scoring position. A wild pitch brought home Hankins to tie the game before Noah Wolf delivered the walk-off single to center field, scoring Montgomery for the 7–6 victory.

  • IU Kokomo completed the doubleheader sweep of Midway on Senior Day with a 2–0 victory in the nightcap, highlighted by timely hitting and strong relief pitching.
