Men's Basketball Dominates Oakland City to Earn Their 20th Win of Season

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - The IU Kokomo men's basketball team reached the 20-win mark with a commanding 17-point victory over in-state rival Oakland City Tuesday night.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Oakland City started the evening hot, going on a 9-0 run in the first three minutes of the game, but that would be the largest lead the Mighy Oaks would muster all night. 
  • IU Kokomo began battling back over the next eight minutes of game time, and finally took their first lead at the 9:19 mark courtesy of a Kedric Anderson triple. From there the Cougars never looked back, keeping the lead for the rest of the game. 
  • IU Kokomo closed the half strong, heading into the locker room with an eleven point lead. 
  • The teams traded buckets to start the second half, with IU Kokomo's lead fluctuating between seven and eleven for the first few minutes. That was until IU Kokomo went on a 15-1 run across four and a half minutes to extend their lead to 23 points. 
  • The Mighty Oaks tried their best to get back into the game, but the Cougar lead proved to be impenetrable as they secured the 83-66 win on the road. 

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Four Cougars were in double-figures scoring Tuesday night, led by Alonzo Clawson-Smith, who tallied yet another double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. 
  • Big man Joseph Annan Jr. had 17 points of his own on 7-15 shooting from the field. 
  • Freshmen Patric Matson and Jake McGraw left their impact on the game as well. Matson tallied 11 points, and McGraw had ten rebounds to go along with his seven points. 
  • Kedric Anderson gave the Cougars a spark off the bench, having 15 points in the win.
