Women's Hoops Gets Back on Track with Win Over Oakland City

KOKOMO, Ind. - After dropping their previous two contests, the IU Kokomo women's basketball team rose above .500 in conference play once again with a 21-point victory over in-state foe Oakland City.

THE RUNDOWN
  • After a slow start from both sides, IU Kokomo secured an eight point, 19-11 lead by the end of the first quarter behind a flurry of scoring in the final two and a half minutes. 
  • The second quarter saw a steady flow of points from both squads, with IU Kokomo just outscoring their opponent by a hair, increasing their halftime lead to twelve. 
  • The Cougars opened up the scoring floodgates to start the third, increasing the lead to as much as 16 by the 3:51 mark. However, the Mighty Oaks went on an eleven to two run to close the quarter, cutting the deficit to just seven. 
  • Oakland City kept their run going to start the fourth quarter, bringing the Cougar lead to just five. From there, IU Kokomo went on a nineteen to two run of their own across a six minute stretch to all but secure the Cougar win. 

LEADING THE CHARGE
  • Four Cougars were in double figures scoring Tuesday night, leb by Cameryn Rector's game-high 24 points, along with four assists. 
  • Her back court mate Mackenzie York followed closely behind with 15 points of her own, and she added six assists. 
  • Mia Catey and Moriah Crawford anchored the front court in the win, with Catey having 12 points and Crawford adding ten. The pair also grabbed seven boards apiece. 
  • Lexi DiOrio had seven points and four rebounds off the bench in the win, and Hannah Hodgen had nine rebounds in the win, four of which were on the offensive glass.
